A wildfire burning near Comstock Lake, southwest of Prince George, has prompted evacuation alerts as officials warn of a 'potential danger to life.' The B.C. Wildfire Service reports the blaze has grown to approximately 1,300 hectares as of Wednesday afternoon.
Evacuation Orders and Alerts
The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George issued an evacuation alert for properties in the area, advising residents to be ready to leave at a moment's notice. While no evacuation order has been issued yet, the alert warns that the fire poses an immediate threat to structures and human safety.
Fire Behavior and Response
More than 60 firefighters, supported by helicopters and air tankers, are battling the fire. The B.C. Wildfire Service says the fire is exhibiting aggressive behavior due to dry conditions and gusty winds. An incident management team has been deployed to coordinate suppression efforts.
Community Impact
Residents under alert are urged to prepare emergency kits, arrange for pets and livestock, and monitor local authorities for updates. A reception center has been established in Prince George for those needing assistance. The fire is one of several active blazes in the province, with the wildfire season starting earlier than usual this year.
