Domtar Publishes 2025 Sustainability Report: Advancing Journey

Domtar, a leading North American manufacturer of diversified forest products, released its 2025 sustainability report titled Advancing Our Sustainability Journey on June 25, 2026. The report marks the company's second year of disclosure as a unified entity and details progress toward its 2030 Sustainability Strategy, launched in May 2025.

Key Achievements in 2025

According to Sabrina de Branco, Global Chief Sustainability Officer, “This report shows how much we’ve achieved since we launched our 2030 Sustainability Strategy in May 2025. In a relatively short period of time, we have made meaningful progress in strengthening governance, aligning key policies and processes, clarifying responsibilities and advancing initiatives that are now taking shape across the organization.”

Highlights from the report include improved CDP scores for climate change, water security, and forests following Domtar's first integrated disclosure. The company also established new corporate Environmental, Health & Safety, and Global Indigenous Relations policies, developed collaboratively by employees.

Water Reduction and Scope 3 Emissions

Domtar continues to prioritize water-related investments through its Paper & Packaging business unit's water reduction capex fund, aiming for a 20% reduction in water-use intensity by 2030 compared to 2020 levels. The company also consolidated its Scope 3 emissions inventory, building on legacy reporting, and plans to publish the 2025 inventory in the next CDP Report due in September 2026.

Indigenous Partnerships and Advisory Committee

In British Columbia, Domtar and the Tla’amin Nation signed the historic tiskwat land agreement, demonstrating commitment to values-based engagement with Indigenous Peoples. Additionally, Domtar launched its External Sustainability Advisory Committee (ESAC), composed of experts from academia, business, Indigenous relations, and international environmental organizations, to provide objective perspectives on emerging trends and risks.

Domtar is a privately held manufacturer with over 13,000 employees across more than 60 North American locations. The company has an annual production capacity of 6.8 million metric tons of pulp, paper, packaging, and tissue, and about 2.6 billion board feet of lumber and other wood products. Investor Jackson Wijaya is the beneficial owner of Domtar.
