WestJet Tops North America in On-Time Performance for May
WestJet Leads North America in On-Time Performance for May

WestJet achieved the top spot in North America for on-time performance in May, according to the latest Cirium On-Time Performance Report. The airline operated nearly 86% of its flights on time, ranking seventh globally and becoming the only Canadian carrier in the global top 10.

Operational Improvements Drive Performance

The milestone reflects significant operational gains. WestJet Vice-President of Operations Planning & Performance, Safa Yamach, stated: "From our frontline leaders and teams to our partners and supporting functions, this level of performance doesn't happen by chance: it's the result of a shared commitment to operational reliability and continuous improvement." Yamach added that the airline's teams have strengthened operations, leading to more consistent on-time performance and smoother guest journeys.

In May, all key operational metrics improved year-over-year. Aircraft turnaround performance achieved a double-digit increase, and WestJet operated an average of 560 flights per day with seven zero-cancellation days throughout the month.

WestJet operates more than 70% of all flights at YYC, highlighting the critical role of collaboration between airline and airport partners in delivering reliable operations.

WestJet's 30-Year Journey

Founded in 1996 with just over 200 employees and three aircraft serving five destinations, WestJet is celebrating its 30th birthday. The airline has transformed Canada's aviation landscape by pioneering low-cost travel, cutting airfares in half and increasing the flying population by more than 50%. Following the 2025 integration of Sunwing, WestJet now has over 14,000 employees supporting nearly 200 aircraft and connecting guests to more than 100 destinations across the Americas, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia.
