Ukraine struck an industrial facility in Russia's Volgograd region overnight, local officials reported Saturday, as a Russian drone attack killed at least one person in Ukraine.
Volgograd Strike Details
Andrei Bocharov, the governor of Russia's Volgograd region, said on Telegram that Ukrainian drones attacked an industrial facility in the region early Saturday. He did not specify the facility's name or extent of damage, but reported that falling debris caused a fire that was later extinguished. No casualties were reported.
The attack comes amid ongoing Ukrainian long-range strikes on Russian energy and industrial infrastructure, which Kyiv says are aimed at disrupting Moscow's war effort.
Russian Drone Attack Claims Life
In a separate development, a Russian drone attack on Friday night killed one person in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region, according to regional governor Serhiy Lysak. He said a 62-year-old man died after a drone struck his vehicle in the city of Nikopol. Three other people were injured in the attack, which also damaged residential buildings and power lines.
Ukrainian air defense systems intercepted 18 of 22 Shahed-type drones launched by Russia overnight, the Ukrainian Air Force reported on Saturday. The drones were shot down over several regions, including Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson.
Broader Impact
The strikes highlight the ongoing intensity of the war, now in its third year. Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian oil refineries and industrial sites to reduce Moscow's revenue and logistical capabilities. Meanwhile, Russia continues daily drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian civilian and energy infrastructure, causing casualties and power outages.
According to the United Nations, more than 11,000 civilians have been killed since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, with actual numbers likely higher.
