Woman, 24, dies in single-vehicle crash near Banff Park gates

A 24-year-old woman from Canmore is dead following a single-vehicle collision on Highway 1 near the Banff Park gates early Sunday morning.

Banff RCMP responded to reports of the crash shortly after 5:30 a.m. on June 28, 2026. Officers arrived at the scene approximately two kilometres west of the Banff Park gates to find that the woman, a passenger in the vehicle, had been killed.

Collision under investigation

The cause of the crash is not yet known. RCMP said the collision remains under investigation, and no further details have been released.

According to police, the vehicle involved was occupied by the deceased woman and the driver, whose condition has not been disclosed. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Highway 1 location

The crash occurred on a stretch of Highway 1 that is a major route through Banff National Park. The area is frequently patrolled by RCMP and park wardens.

Authorities have not released the name of the victim pending notification of next of kin.
