Resident Stranded After Floodwaters Isolate Park
A Winnipeg resident is trapped in Duck Mountain Provincial Park after severe floodwaters washed out roads, leaving no way out. The individual, whose name has not been released, reported being stuck in the park as rising waters cut off access routes. Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew has issued an urgent plea for residents in the Parkland region to stay off all roads due to the serious flooding.
Premier Urges Caution as Flooding Worsens
Premier Wab Kinew emphasized the danger, stating, “We’re stuck,” in reference to the stranded resident and the broader situation. He urged everyone to avoid travel in the area until conditions improve. The flooding has been exacerbated by heavy rainfall, with multiple roads becoming impassable.
Impact on Local Communities
The flooding has also affected nearby communities, including Dauphin, Man., where officials said, “We’re on the back end of this,” as cleanup efforts begin after overland flooding. The Insurance Bureau of Canada has launched a helpline for flood-stricken residents in Ottawa, highlighting the widespread nature of the disaster.
Broader Weather Concerns
Extreme heat and thunderstorms have compounded the situation across Canada. Toronto canceled a FIFA watch party at Nathan Phillips Square due to extreme heat, while Ottawa braces for another thunderstorm after a record-breaking downpour. The combination of heat and flooding has put additional strain on infrastructure and emergency services.
