US Coast Guard Searches for Missing Child on Lake Erie

The U.S. Coast Guard is conducting an intensive search for a missing 11-year-old boater near western Lake Erie, with all available resources deployed and assistance from American local, state, and federal partners, officials said.

Search Initiated Thursday Evening

The search began Thursday evening when Coast Guard Sector Detroit was notified by partner agencies that an investigation into an incident believed to be connected to the missing child was underway. Few details about the incident have been released.

Officers with Station Marblehead and Station Toledo located the vessel connected to the disappearance and began search efforts Thursday evening. An Air Station Detroit MH-60 Dolphin helicopter crew has also been assisting in the ongoing search.

Multi-Agency Response

Officials said all available resources have been deployed, and American local, state and federal partners, including the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Jerusalem Fire Department, and Toledo Fire Department, were planning an extensive search continuation at daybreak Friday.
