Ottawa Fire Services rescued two individuals from the Ottawa River on Monday evening after their sailboat capsized near downtown. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m., prompting a swift response from emergency crews.
Rescue Operation Details
Firefighters deployed a water rescue boat to reach the overturned vessel. Both occupants were found clinging to the hull and were brought aboard the rescue craft. Paramedics assessed them at the scene, and no injuries were reported.
Weather and Water Conditions
Authorities noted that winds were gusting up to 30 km/h at the time, creating choppy conditions on the river. The sailboat, a 22-foot vessel, appeared to have been caught off guard by a sudden shift in wind.
Ottawa Fire Services reminded boaters to check weather forecasts and wear life jackets at all times. The cause of the capsizing is under investigation.
