All Regina Public Library (RPL) branches will now operate seven days a week, with minor adjustments to daily hours, beginning July 2, 2026. The change aims to provide consistent access for all residents.
New Schedule Details
Under the new schedule, all RPL locations will open at 9:30 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday. On Fridays and Saturdays, branches will open at 9:30 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. Sunday hours will be 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at all branches.
Previously, most branches were closed on Sundays, and some had varying hours on weekdays. The new schedule standardizes hours across all locations, eliminating Sunday closures.
Community Response
RPL CEO Sean Cuthbert said the change responds to community demand for more consistent and extended hours. “We heard from residents that Sunday access was important, especially for families and students,” Cuthbert said in a statement. “This new schedule ensures everyone has the same opportunity to use our services seven days a week.”
The library board approved the changes after a public consultation process that showed strong support for Sunday openings.
Impact on Services
The expanded hours will not affect staffing levels or programming, according to library officials. All regular programs, including storytimes, computer classes, and community events, will continue as scheduled. Some programs may shift to accommodate the new hours, but no cancellations are expected.
RPL operates 10 branches across Regina, serving a population of over 225,000. In 2025, the library system recorded more than 1.2 million visits and circulated over 2.5 million items.
