The RCMP Musical Ride is making its return to Ottawa with four free public performances scheduled for July 24 to 27, 2026, at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum. The shows will take place at 7 p.m. each evening, featuring 32 riders and their Hanoverian horses performing intricate drills and cavalry maneuvers set to music.
Performance Details and History
The Musical Ride, a tradition dating back to 1876, showcases the equestrian skills of RCMP officers. The horses are hand-picked Hanoverians, selected for their temperament, athleticism, and appearance. Each performance lasts approximately 45 minutes and includes formations such as the Dome, the Wagon Wheel, and the March Past.
According to RCMP Staff Sergeant Scott Worden, the Musical Ride is a cherished Canadian tradition. “It’s a great opportunity for families to see the horses and riders up close and learn about the history of the RCMP,” he said.
Logistics and Accessibility
Admission is free, but attendees are encouraged to arrive early as seating is limited. The venue offers accessible seating and parking. The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is located at 901 Prince of Wales Drive. Organizers recommend using public transit or carpooling due to limited parking.
The Musical Ride travels across Canada each year, performing in over 50 communities. This year’s tour includes stops in Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes before concluding in the fall.
