NASA will hold a technical briefing on June 25, 2026, at 2:00 pm ET to discuss an upcoming spacewalk to replace a wrist joint on Canadarm2, the robotic arm on the International Space Station (ISS). The spacewalk is scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, at approximately 8:35 am ET.
Briefing Participants and Details
Experts from the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and NASA will provide a preview of the spacewalk from NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. Participants include Jason Dyer, CSA deputy liaison manager in Houston; Bill Spetch, operations and integration manager for the ISS Program at NASA; and Fiona Antkowiak, spacewalk flight director at NASA.
The briefing will be livestreamed on NASA’s platforms. Media interested in joining by phone must contact the Johnson Space Center newsroom at jsccommu@mail.nasa.gov by 5:00 pm on June 24. To ask a question, media must dial in no later than 15 minutes before the start. US-based media wishing to attend in person must also contact the newsroom by the same deadline.
Media and Public Access
Media with questions or who wish to speak with a CSA expert should contact the CSA’s Media Relations Office. The briefing will be available for viewing on NASA’s official channels. For more information, refer to NASA’s media advisory.
Canadarm2's Role and Repair
Canadarm2 is a critical component of the ISS, used for capturing cargo spacecraft, spacewalk support, and station maintenance. The replacement of the wrist joint is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the arm’s continued operation. The spacewalk will be conducted by NASA astronauts, with support from mission control in Houston.
According to the Canadian Space Agency, the repair is essential for maintaining the arm's functionality. The CSA noted that Canadarm2 has been in service since 2001 and has undergone previous repairs and upgrades.
