Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew has officially welcomed a rescued and injured lynx named Lumi to its new home at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. The lynx, which had been under the care of the Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre, was transferred to the zoo after a lengthy recovery process.
Rescue and Rehabilitation
Lumi was found injured in the wild and brought to the Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre, where it received medical treatment and care. Zoe Nakata, a representative from the centre, provided an update on the lynx's condition, noting that it had made significant progress and was ready for a new environment.
Premier's Involvement
Premier Kinew expressed his support for the rehabilitation efforts and emphasized the importance of preserving Manitoba's wildlife. He stated that Lumi's story is a testament to the dedication of wildlife rescuers and the community's commitment to animal welfare.
New Zoo Home
The Assiniboine Park Zoo has prepared a suitable habitat for Lumi, designed to mimic its natural environment and support its continued recovery. Zoo officials are optimistic about Lumi's adaptation and hope it will thrive in its new surroundings.
This event highlights the collaborative efforts between rehabilitation centres and zoos in Manitoba to protect and care for injured wildlife, ensuring they receive a second chance at life.
