Umbrella Policy at B.C. Place for FIFA Matches

Fans attending FIFA World Cup games in Vancouver at B.C. Place Stadium are permitted to bring small foldable umbrellas, but larger models are prohibited due to safety and sightline concerns. The policy, confirmed by event organizers, aims to ensure unobstructed views and avoid hazards in crowded seating areas.

What Is Allowed and What Is Not

According to the official FIFA venue guidelines, umbrellas with a collapsed length of 30 centimeters or less are allowed inside B.C. Place. However, golf umbrellas, beach umbrellas, or any umbrella with a metal tip that could cause injury are banned. Security personnel will inspect bags at entrances, and prohibited items must be returned to vehicles or discarded.

"We want everyone to enjoy the matches safely and comfortably," said a Vancouver FIFA spokesperson. "Small umbrellas are fine, but we ask fans to leave the large ones at home."

Weather Considerations

Vancouver's June climate often includes rain, with an average of 13 rainy days during the month. B.C. Place has a retractable roof, but it remains open for some matches to allow natural grass growth and ventilation. Fans are advised to check the roof status before attending and come prepared with rain gear that complies with the stadium's policy.

Other Prohibited Items

In addition to large umbrellas, the stadium bans outside food and beverages, glass containers, laser pointers, and professional cameras with detachable lenses. Bags larger than 14 by 14 by 6 inches are also not permitted. Clear bag policies may be enforced to expedite security checks.
