A tragic incident occurred on Upper Rideau Lake on Saturday, May 30, when a 24-year-old man from Brampton, Ontario, drowned after his canoe capsized. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that the man was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident.
Emergency Response
Just after 5:30 p.m., officers from the Leeds County OPP detachment responded to a marine distress call. The Grenville Paramedic Service and the Rideau Lakes Fire Department also attended the scene. After an extensive search, the canoeist was located and transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have confirmed that a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
