Arson fire causes $200K damage to Windsor playground

Windsor police arson investigators are searching for suspects following a fire that caused an estimated $200,000 in damage to a municipal playground. The blaze was intentionally set using a petroleum-based accelerant, according to the arson unit.

Fire engulfed playground equipment

Police responded to Parent Park, located in the 2200 block of Parent Avenue, on July 2 just after 11 p.m. after receiving reports of a fire. Windsor Fire and Rescue Services crews extinguished the blaze, which had fully engulfed the playground equipment.

The playground sustained significant damage, police said. No injuries were reported.

Investigation and appeal for evidence

The arson unit determined the fire was deliberately set. Investigators are now asking residents and business owners in the immediate area to review surveillance or dashcam footage between 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on July 2 for any evidence that may assist the investigation.
