Colbert Mocks Trump's $2 Gas Promise as Prices Hit $4.48
Colbert Mocks Trump's $2 Gas Promise Amid High Prices

Stephen Colbert, host of The Late Show, took aim at President Donald Trump's claims about his conflict with Iran and its impact on American consumers. During his Monday night monologue, Colbert highlighted the disconnect between Trump's promises and reality.

Gas Prices Skyrocket

According to AAA, gas prices have hit $4.48 per gallon, significantly higher than $3.16 a year ago and far above the $2 Trump promised during the 2024 election campaign. The spike is largely attributed to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route for oil.

“You’ve got to give it to President Trump. He campaigned on $2 gas,” Colbert remarked. “And now, he’s delivering more than twice what he promised.”

Wall Street Acronyms

Colbert noted that Wall Street traders have updated their acronym for the president. Previously, they used TACO, which stood for “Trump Always Chickens Out.” Now, they have switched to NACHO, meaning “Not A Chance Hormuz Opens.”

This inspired Colbert to create his own acronym: CARNITAS, which stands for “Can Anyone Recommend Nursing home? I Think his brain A-Sploded.”

  • Gas prices: $4.48 per gallon (AAA)
  • Year ago: $3.16 per gallon
  • Trump's 2024 promise: $2 per gallon

Colbert's monologue continues to poke fun at the administration's handling of the situation, blending humor with sharp political commentary.
