Neil Young Announces Cancellation of 2026 European Summer Tour
Canadian rock icon Neil Young has made the difficult decision to cancel his band's highly anticipated summer tour of Europe, which was scheduled to begin in mid-June 2026. The legendary musician, who celebrated his 80th birthday in November 2025, shared this disappointing news directly with fans through a personal message posted on his official website this Friday.
'This Is Not the Time' for European Performances
In his heartfelt statement, Young wrote, "I have decided to take a break and will not be touring Europe this time." He continued with sincere apologies to ticket holders, saying, "Thanks to everyone who bought tickets. I'm sorry to let you down, but this is not the time. I do love playing LIVE and being with you and the Chrome Hearts." The message concluded with his signature "LOVE, Neil" and wishes for fans to "be well" despite the cancellation.
Extensive Tour Schedule Affected
The cancelled tour was planned as an extensive 14-city journey across multiple European countries, including:
- United Kingdom (opening performances)
- France
- Ireland
- Netherlands
- Belgium
- Switzerland
- Italy
According to Young's official tour page, no other concerts are currently scheduled for 2026 following this cancellation. The Chrome Hearts band, which was set to accompany Young, features several accomplished musicians:
- Guitarist Micah Nelson
- Bassist Corey McCormick
- Drummer Anthony Logerfo
- Organist Spooner Oldham
Additionally, Elvis Costello and the Imposters were scheduled to serve as the opening act for several shows on the tour.
Recent Musical Activities and Generous Offer
This cancellation comes after Young completed extensive touring throughout Europe, Canada, and the United States during the previous year. The rock legend, who holds dual Canadian and American citizenship and primarily resides in Canada with his wife, actress Daryl Hannah, has remained active in both performance and social advocacy.
Just last month, Young demonstrated his commitment to global community support by offering all residents of Greenland free access to his complete music catalog for one year. This generous gesture was made in response to former U.S. President Donald Trump's controversial threats regarding the Arctic island. Young expressed his hope that his music would provide comfort, stating, "I hope my music and music films will ease some of the unwarranted stress and threats you are experiencing from our unpopular and hopefully temporary government."
The musician emphasized that this offer represented "an offer of Peace and Love" and encouraged other organizations to follow his compassionate example. Greenland residents can renew their free subscriptions annually as long as they continue living on the island.
While fans across Europe will undoubtedly be disappointed by the tour cancellation, Young's message suggests this break is temporary rather than permanent. His enduring passion for live performance and connection with audiences remains evident, even as he takes this necessary pause from touring commitments.
