Don Felder, the legendary guitarist and former member of the Eagles, is set to join the Guess Who as a special guest on their Takin' It Back Tour across Canada. The tour kicks off on May 26 at the Avenir Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Felder's Canadian Connection
During a phone interview from his Florida home, the 78-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Fame musician joked about the weather difference between southern Florida, where it was 34 degrees Celsius, and Moncton, where temperatures were half that. Felder, who owned a home in Canmore, Alberta, in the 2010s, expressed his fondness for Canadians, saying he has "never met a Canadian I didn't like."
He recounted an experience on the Trans-Canada Highway near Banff, where he pulled over to take a call and three separate cars stopped to check on him. "That would never happen in Los Angeles. You would be a dried-up, rotten corpse on the side of the road before anybody ever pulled over in L.A.," Felder laughed.
Tour Details
The Canadian leg of the Takin' It Back Tour includes 13 stops: Moncton, Halifax, Laval, Ottawa, Toronto, Hamilton, London, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Victoria. The tour name references Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings regaining full ownership of the Guess Who name following a 2024 settlement with former bandmates.
Felder joined the tour thanks to his manager Charlie Brusco's long-standing relationship with Cummings, Bachman, and their management teams. "Between all the songs they have from the Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Burton's solo career, plus the catalogue in my show, I knew we could put together a really great tour," Felder said.
Setlist Highlights
A typical Felder set includes Eagles classics like "Victim of Love," "Already Gone," "Peaceful Easy Feeling," "Life in the Fast Lane," "Seven Bridges Road," and "Hotel California." He also performs his top 40 hit "Heavy Metal (Takin' a Ride)" and songs from his solo album The Vault.
Felder praised his band members as "the creme de la creme" and predicted the shows would be a "fabulous, close to three-hour show" that will have fans on their feet. He also lauded the Guess Who's catalog, including songs like "These Eyes."
A Lifelong Passion
Felder's musical journey began at age 10 after seeing Elvis Presley on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1956. He traded cherry bomb fireworks for his first guitar. Over 68 years, he has collaborated with music royalty including Don Henley, Glen Frey, Joe Walsh, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Tom Petty, and Duane Allman.
"I just love playing. I don't need to make another dime. The reason I go out and work so hard is I love going out on stage and playing in front of a lot of people, making them happy with memories from all the songs that I have written, co-written and recorded," Felder said.
