Jon Stewart, host of "The Daily Show," was momentarily speechless on Monday night after hearing President Donald Trump's recent comments about Chinese President Xi Jinping. Trump remarked, "If you went to Hollywood and you looked for a leader of China, you couldn't find a guy like him. He's tall, very tall. Especially for this country, 'cause they tend to be a little bit shorter."
After a 15-second pause, Stewart finally responded, "What the fuck are you talking about?" He suggested that this might be "as good as we can expect" from Trump, given his track record, and wondered if the president would next comment on Xi's eyes.
Stewart then posed a question to his audience: "You might be watching this and wondering: How the fuck is this guy our president?!? How? How is this possible? He should not have this job. And yet... he does."
However, Stewart offered an alternative perspective: "Maybe it's time to stop being exasperated by this, by Trump. And maybe it's time to see if we can glean lessons from Trump's rise." He then turned Trump's career into a sarcastic guide for recent college graduates seeking employment, advising them to abandon honesty and hard work in favor of being "cocky and super fucking weird," lying during interviews, and even insulting their interviewers.
"I don't know why this works. I don't fucking get it. I don't," Stewart admitted. "But here we are – and here he is. And he's the president, and I'm on basic cable. I don't understand!"
