Cash Cab Host Adam Growe Shares Behind-the-Wheel Insights as Show Returns for 10th Season

Vancouver native Adam Growe is preparing to get back behind the wheel as the Canadian version of Cash Cab launches its milestone 10th season. The popular mobile trivia game, which features contestants answering questions during taxi rides for cash prizes, returns with 26 new episodes premiering April 22 at 10 p.m. on Much, with streaming available on Crave beginning April 23.

Unscripted Entertainment with Genuine Reactions

The unscripted and unpredictable nature of Cash Cab creates authentic moments that continue to delight both host and audience. Growe, a longtime standup comedian and MC, emphasizes that the spontaneous reactions from passengers remain one of the most rewarding aspects of his job. "The genuine emotions and spontaneous reactions from people riding along with me in the back of the cab are a true delight to watch," Growe reveals.

Contestants face trivia questions during their journey from pickup to destination, with opportunities for "shout-outs" when stumped. The format has proven consistently engaging across nine previous seasons, building a loyal following for the Canadian adaptation of the international franchise.

Record Payouts and Memorable Moments

When asked about the most money he's given away, Growe recalls a significant payout from earlier seasons. "The biggest payout on Cash Cab is, so far, $2,400," he explains. "It's from one of the earlier seasons where we had the 'triple-play' bonus."

This special opportunity allowed contestants to triple their winnings if they opted for a video bonus question at the end of their ride, provided they had zero strikes during their journey. Growe notes that while this record has stood for years, even smaller wins generate tremendous excitement. "Still to this day, when teams win $800, they're ecstatic. And so am I," he adds with enthusiasm.

Unexpected Challenges and Repeat Contestants

Like any cab driver, Growe has faced occasional challenges with passengers. "There have been a couple of times when people are, let's say, 'too unwell' to be riding in a crowded, brightly lit, moving TV game show," he acknowledges. Safety concerns with equipment and other crew members necessitated careful handling of such situations, with Growe providing taxi coupons and ensuring alternative transportation for affected passengers.

Interestingly, some contestants have returned for second chances at Cash Cab glory. "Yes, it has happened a couple of times that I can remember," Growe confirms. "I'm glad they respond like they've just won the lottery a second time instead of 'ugh. You again.'"

Trivia Knowledge and Lasting Joy

Despite asking thousands of trivia questions over the years, Growe humorously admits this hasn't made him a pub trivia champion. "My friends and family think I'm a ringer and expect me to carry the team to a glorious victory," he says. "It's even worse when I can't recall an answer over beers and fries and it's a question similar to one I had actually asked on an episode of the show."

What continues to amaze Growe after years of hosting is the consistent joy the experience brings. "There's never a day when I'm heading down to get behind the wheel of the Cash Cab that I'm not grateful for a job that brings other people and me so much joy," he reflects. As the show prepares for its tenth season premiere, both host and audience anticipate more unexpected moments, challenging questions, and rewarding experiences in the distinctive mobile game show that has become a Canadian television staple.
