Jimmy Kimmel found a short sound bite that seemed to capture the essence of President Donald Trump. “According to every poll done by everyone, a strong majority of Americans are against this war he concocted,” Kimmel pointed out. Yet Trump “both acknowledges and rejects” that reality, the late-night host said before playing a clip from Tuesday of the president doing so.

“Look, everyone tells me it’s unpopular,” Trump said. “But I think it’s very popular.”

Kimmel could hardly believe it.

“OK, that right there, that five-second moment, is all you need to know about this man,” he said. “‘Everyone tells me it’s unpopular, but I think it’s popular.’ It’s about as stupid a sentence as I have ever heard in my life.”
