Vancouver's Finn Wolfhard has been cast in the upcoming 3D-animated film Ally, directed by Oscar-winning Korean filmmaker Bong Joon Ho. The star of Stranger Things will lend his voice alongside a remarkable ensemble that includes Bradley Cooper, Ayo Edebiri, Werner Herzog, Dave Bautista, Rachel House, and newcomer Alex Jayne Go. The film is scheduled for a 2027 release.
Plot and Production Details
Co-written by Bong Joon Ho and Jason Yu, Ally tells the story of a curious piglet squid living in the depths of the South Pacific Ocean. The protagonist dreams of seeing the sun and becoming the star of a wildlife documentary. Her world takes an exciting and dangerous turn when a mysterious aircraft sinks into the ocean, leading Ally and her colorful companions on a journey to the surface. Casting for specific characters has not yet been announced.
Wolfhard's Recent Achievements
The casting announcement comes shortly after Wolfhard made his Met Gala debut in a custom Thom Browne ensemble, combining black wool and white silk faille with hand-painted textures and a utility skirt belt. Since Stranger Things concluded, Wolfhard has remained busy, hosting Saturday Night Live in January 2026 and appearing in the Vancouver-shot Malcolm in the Middle reboot.
Music and Tour
Wolfhard, an investor who helped save Vancouver's Park Theatre, is also pursuing music. He will bring The Common Side Effects Tour to Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom on October 20. The tour supports his upcoming solo album Fire From The Hip, releasing July 10, and features the single I'll Let You Finish. The tour kicks off July 17 in Washington, D.C.
