Morning Celebrations and Parades
The day begins with a pancake breakfast at Galt Gardens from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., hosted by local service clubs. Following breakfast, the annual Canada Day Parade kicks off at 10 a.m. along 5th Avenue South, featuring floats, marching bands, and community groups. The parade route will close 5th Avenue from 1st Street to 8th Street until noon.
Family Activities and Entertainment
Galt Gardens transforms into a festival zone from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering inflatable bouncers, face painting, and live music. The Lethbridge Public Library hosts a children's story time at 1 p.m. At Henderson Lake Park, the Lethbridge Symphony performs a free concert at 2 p.m. at the bandshell.
Evening Fireworks and Road Closures
The main fireworks display begins at 10:30 p.m. over Henderson Lake. To accommodate spectators, several roads around the lake will close from 8 p.m. to midnight, including Paradise Canyon Drive and Scenic Drive South. The city advises attendees to arrive early and use designated parking areas at the Lethbridge College and Exhibition Park, with free shuttle service starting at 6 p.m.
Weather and Safety
Environment Canada forecasts a sunny day with a high of 26°C, dropping to 15°C by evening. Police remind residents that fireworks are only permitted in designated areas, and alcohol consumption is banned in public parks. The Lethbridge Fire Department will have extra crews on standby.
Community Highlights
This year's celebrations also include a citizenship ceremony at City Hall at 11 a.m., welcoming 30 new Canadians. Local businesses are offering Canada Day specials, and the Lethbridge Farmers Market will operate extended hours from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Exhibition Park.
