Italian Week in Ottawa wraps up Sunday with a display of vintage Italian cars on Preston Street, drawing car enthusiasts and cultural revelers alike. The event, organized by the Italian community, features classic automobiles from iconic Italian brands such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Alfa Romeo.
Event Details and Highlights
The car show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Preston Street, a hub for Ottawa's Italian community. Organizers expect hundreds of attendees to admire the meticulously restored vehicles, some dating back to the 1950s. Alongside the cars, visitors can enjoy live music, Italian cuisine, and cultural performances.
"This is a celebration of Italian craftsmanship and design," said event coordinator Marco Rossi. "The vintage cars represent a golden era of automotive innovation, and we're proud to share that with Ottawa."
Community and Cultural Significance
Italian Week has been a staple in Ottawa for over a decade, promoting Italian heritage through food, art, and history. This year's edition included cooking demonstrations, film screenings, and a soccer tournament. The vintage car display serves as the grand finale, attracting families and collectors from across the region.
According to organizers, more than 30 cars are on display, each with a unique story. One highlight is a 1967 Ferrari 330 GTC, owned by a local collector. "These cars are not just machines; they're works of art," Rossi added.
Impact and Attendance
Italian Week draws thousands of visitors annually, boosting local businesses on Preston Street. Restaurants and cafes report increased foot traffic during the festival. The vintage car show is expected to draw record crowds this year, thanks to sunny weather and growing interest in classic automobiles.
"Events like this strengthen community bonds and preserve cultural traditions," said Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe in a statement. "Italian Week showcases the best of our city's diversity."
