Enjoy the Long Weekend: Five Things to Do in Saskatoon, May 15-18
Five Things to Do in Saskatoon This Long Weekend

This long weekend, residents and visitors in Saskatoon can enjoy a variety of local events that celebrate spring weather and community spirit. From improv comedy to outdoor theatre, standup performances, a Sikh cultural celebration, and an outdoor art gallery, there is something for everyone from May 15 to 18.

1. Experience a Comedy-Horror Parody

The Saskatoon Soaps Improv Comedy presents The Back Backrooms, an improvised parody of the horror film Backrooms. Nothing is scripted, and anything can happen as performers navigate fluorescent-lit rooms, strange encounters, and bizarre twists, building the story with audience suggestions. The show takes place Friday at the Broadway Theatre at 8 p.m. Learn more at broadwaytheatre.ca.

2. Think About Democracy with Colour

Sum Theatre presents Theatre in the Park’s 14th season, featuring The Colour of the Town. The youth of Taupe Town challenge their people to look beyond colour preferences and embrace all possibilities in this original story about personal choice, differing opinions, and the importance of getting along. The show explores the beauty of democracy with live music, giant puppets, and audience participation. This free summer theatre, suitable for all ages, is performed in parks around Saskatoon until May 31, before touring Northern Saskatchewan and Regina. It returns June 16-30. On Friday, Canadian comedian and writer Dan Duvall takes the stage at 7 p.m. Duvall has performed across Canada and the U.S., with writing experience including copy-writing for TV and radio, and writing for the Comedy Network’s Adult Swim. On Saturday, two shows at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. feature Dino Archie, with Saskatoon Cree-Romanian comedian Afrin Sarca opening. Archie has appeared on TV and stage and hosts several comedy podcasts; his recent special Beautiful Burden is on YouTube. 4. Celebrate Sikh Culture

The annual Sikh Day Parade and celebration takes place Sunday. This vibrant event features a colourful procession, devotional music, community service and announcements, and cultural engagement. The parade starts at 10 a.m. outside the Sikh Society of Saskatchewan Temple, and the celebration runs until 4 p.m. in Forest Park. Everyone is welcome. Learn more on Facebook.

5. Explore an Outdoor Gallery
