White Cowboy Boots: A Bold Statement
For Charlotte Caron and Nicole Straznicky, the footwear of choice was white cowboy boots, which stood out against the muddy backdrop. The shin-high boots were a popular style among fans awaiting country star Cody Johnson. Caron and Straznicky remained unfazed by the conditions. “They’re cheap and they’re easy to wipe off,” Straznicky said, adding they were not actively avoiding the growing mud puddles.
Flip-Flops and Rain Boots: Practicality vs. Regret
Bronwyn Lambert opted for flip-flops, initially to avoid blisters while walking to the festival with her friend Nadia Estoppa. However, when the pair decided to take an Uber instead, Lambert regretted not switching to rain boots. “A little bit,” she admitted after dodging mud puddles on her way to see hip-hop trio Digable Planets perform. Estoppa, meanwhile, wore rain boots.
Weather and Preparedness
Although downpours occurred throughout the day before the festival, the clouds mostly held off once music started, with only a few brief showers. Many attendees arrived with ponchos, rain jackets, and umbrellas, ready for the forecasted rain. The festival’s website assures that shows proceed rain or shine, as stages and equipment are designed for wet conditions. “If you like the artist enough, you’ll go rain or shine,” Lambert said, pulling her poncho over her head as rain began to drizzle. Nikki Morry, also in flip-flops, echoed that bad weather would not deter her.
