Historical Groups Unite for London 200
In a unique collaboration, the London & Middlesex Historical Society and Western University have come together to celebrate London's bicentennial with a series of engaging stories from the Forest City's past. The initiative, dubbed London 200, aims to highlight the rich history of the region through a variety of events and digital content.
James Reaney, president of the London & Middlesex Historical Society, and Mike Dove, a professor of public history at Western University, were seen on May 13, 2026, discussing the project. The partnership combines academic research with community history, offering a fresh perspective on London's development over the past two centuries.
London 200 will feature a range of activities, including walking tours, historical exhibits, and online archives. The goal is to make history accessible to all residents and visitors, fostering a deeper appreciation for the city's heritage.
Reaney emphasized the importance of storytelling in preserving local history. "Every city has its unique tales, and London is no exception. By sharing these stories, we hope to connect people with their community's past," he said.
Dove added that the collaboration allows for a more comprehensive approach to history. "Working with the historical society gives us access to a wealth of primary sources and local knowledge that enriches our academic work," he noted.
The project is part of a broader effort to mark London's bicentennial, which includes other community events and initiatives. Organizers encourage everyone to participate and discover the Forest City's fascinating history.
