Shakira's son kisses her at World Cup, not a stranger

Colombian pop star Shakira was seen being kissed by a companion during a World Cup match; it was her 11-year-old son Sasha, not a stranger, sparking confusion online before the family moment was clarified.

Fans watching Monday's match between Argentina and Austria at Dallas Stadium had questions after global pop star Shakira was spotted in attendance. The Colombian music icon was there to watch Lionel Messi break the record for most career FIFA World Cup goals, but what happened when she appeared on the live TV broadcast drew attention.

When the camera locked on her sitting in a luxury box, the person seated to her left quickly put his arm around her and went in for a kiss — which did not seem wanted in the moment. Fans were confused, commenting on social media and asking what had just occurred.

Social media reaction

“Is Shakira OK?” one fan account asked while posting a video of the awkward moment. Another user on X asked, “Who’s this guy trying to force a kiss on Shakira?” However, it was all just a playful family moment: Shakira was taking in the game with her two sons, 13-year-old Milan and 11-year-old Sasha, with the younger boy going in for the kiss.

Once it was realized that the incident involved her son, social media praised the scene. “What a fantastic family moment,” one user replied on X. “Hahaha Shakira with her two heartthrobs, how they love her, her kids and Milan all clingy with love,” another user wrote.

The two boys are the sons of the 49-year-old singer and former Spanish soccer star Gerard Piqué. Although Shakira and Piqué never married, they were together for 11 years, from 2011 to 2022, before breaking up amid the ex-defender's infidelity.

Shakira's World Cup role

Shakira has once again partnered with FIFA to provide a theme song for the massive summer tournament. This time, she recorded with rapper Burna Boy the official anthem of the 2026 World Cup, called “Dai Dai.” The music video features several soccer stars and has racked up more than 221 million views on YouTube since its release a month ago.

After performing ahead of the opening match of the tournament in Mexico City earlier this month, Shakira is also slated to perform during a star-studded halftime show during the final game next month.
