Seth Meyers Analyzes Trump's Unusual Reaction to NYC Mayor-Elect
Seth Meyers on Trump's Charm by NYC Mayor-Elect

Late Night host Seth Meyers delivered a sharp analysis of President Donald Trump's unusual behavior during a recent Oval Office meeting with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani. The Monday night monologue highlighted what Meyers described as Trump's visibly "smitten" reaction to the Democratic socialist politician.

Trump's Uncharacteristic Charm Response

During his show, Meyers presented a theory about why President Trump appeared so captivated by Mamdani. "I've never seen Trump this smitten before," Meyers declared to his audience. "This is a reminder: He doesn't work with a single cool person!"

The comedian supported his argument by displaying images of Trump's current circle of officials, including White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Vice President JD Vance. Meyers characterized these individuals as "charmless goons" who created an environment where any display of charisma would stand out dramatically.

The Contrast Factor

Meyers elaborated on the stark contrast between Mamdani and Trump's regular associates. "He is surrounded by so many charmless goons that the first time he got to hang out with someone that had a little charisma, he swooned like he was on a date with the varsity quarterback," the host joked.

The commentary continued with Meyers pointing out Mamdani's distinctive background compared to typical political figures. "You'd have stars in your eyes, too, if you spent every day of your life with joyless gargoyles like Stephen Miller and JD Vance, and then you met a 34-year-old social media star who rapped in a halal cart and once appeared in an actual Disney movie," he added.

The Fascist Remark Flirtation

The most revealing moment came when Meyers played a clip from the actual Oval Office encounter. The footage showed Trump interrupting Mamdani after a reporter asked the mayor-elect about describing the president as a fascist.

In the clip, Trump tells Mamdani: "That's OK, you can just say 'Yes,' OK? It's easier — it's easier than explaining it, I don't mind," before physically patting the mayor-elect on the arm.

Meyers couldn't resist commenting on Trump's unusual delivery. "That is the flirtiest I've ever heard anyone say, 'You can call me a fascist,'" he quipped. The host then launched into an impression of Trump taking the comment even further: "You can call me a fascist, you can call me — I'll be whatever you want me to be!"

The segment concluded with Meyers encouraging viewers to watch more of his Monday monologue on Late Night for additional political commentary and humor.
