Chieng's Reaction to the Wall Street Journal Interview
Reacting to a Wall Street Journal interview with Daniel Moraff and Leanne Fan, the duo who originally found Platner, Chieng couldn't resist taking jabs during several awkward moments. "Is this guy going through puberty in real time?" Chieng said, mocking Moraff's voice cracking during the interview. "But, hey, grown-up McLovin and the lady who runs a cat cafe, they're professionals, right? How did they shit the bed so hard?"
Vetting Process Under Fire
Chieng then played a clip from the interview where Fan could be seen laughing when asked how they vetted Platner before launching him onto the national stage. An exasperated Chieng rubbed his eyes in frustration before asking: "How are these people the kingmakers?" He added, "This is why we need to stop taking political advice from Dungeons and Dragons polycules."
Authenticity Over Due Diligence
Chieng argued that Moraff and Fan seemed more concerned with finding a candidate who "looked like an authentic Maine man" than doing their "due diligence." Platner's campaign imploded after allegations of sexual assault, leading to his withdrawal on Wednesday, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.
