Megyn Kelly Slams Larry David for Trump UFC Comments
Megyn Kelly Slams Larry David Over Trump UFC Remarks

Megyn Kelly took aim at Larry David this week after the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator and star declared he was “embarrassed to be an American” following President Donald Trump’s UFC spectacle at the White House. The former Fox News host put David on blast on her SiriusXM radio show, saying she wished he “would stop with the political, over-the-top stuff.”

Kelly Accuses David of Elitism

“There’s no question Larry lives in either Beverly Hills or Bel Air and is living it up big,” Kelly said in a conversation with venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya. “And [he] looked at these guys, and had absolutely nothing that he could relate to on this more of a working-class American sport, turned his nose up at it and walked away saying: ‘I’m embarrassed to be associated with them.’”

Kelly was referencing comments David made in a Variety interview while attending the premiere of his new HBO series, “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America.” David’s show, which premieres Friday, features a starry cast that includes Bill Hader, Kathryn Hahn and Jon Hamm, and is executive produced by former President Barack Obama.

David’s Remarks on Trump’s UFC Event

Asked by Variety about Trump’s UFC Freedom 250 event, David said, “It was a travesty, what else can you say about it? It was embarrassing. I was embarrassed to be an American.”

Palihapitiya, however, suggested the UFC event was on par with recent LGBTQ+ Pride celebrations that were held at the White House under Obama and former President Joe Biden, prompting Kelly to drop a transphobic slur. “I don’t see a ton of Republicans, after we had trannies on the White House lawn showing their fake boobs, saying that they felt un-American,” she said. “There’s nothing Joe Biden could do to make me feel un-American. I feel disgusted with his choices.”

Kelly’s Shifting View on Trump

Though Kelly has long been a supporter of Trump and his MAGA agenda, she’s shifted her stance on the president a bit in recent months, particularly in the wake of the Iran war. “Many of us just like Trump. We like his personality,” she said on her radio show in April. “But then, the other truth of it is, there are aspects of his personality which are obviously not good and that we’ve mostly just chosen to overlook. You know, he’s not a moral man, he’s obviously not the greatest husband in the world, and he’s extremely petty and thin-skinned.”

In that same segment, however, Kelly praised Trump’s “endearing” and “charming” sense of humor and “unwillingness to stay down.” “There’s still, in my view, a lot to like about Trump,” she said. “It’s just some of those darker demons are much more in the front view right now.”
