Rep. Sarah McBride (D-Del.) was asked Thursday who could play her in a biopic, and the transgender congresswoman humorously suggested a trans actress from the 2014 rom-com 'Boy Meets Girl.'
McBride's Response
In a fun exchange, McBride said, 'Well it would have to be a trans actress. There's an actress in a movie ... 'Boy Meets Girl,' I think, could maybe play me.' She was likely referring to trans actor Michelle Hendley, one of the leads in that film.
The exchange occurred during an interview with PabloReports, where McBride was caught off guard. She later laughed about it on X, writing, 'Was not ready for that question lol.'
Social Media Reactions
McBride engaged with comments on the thread. When someone wrote, 'I totally have the range to play u btw,' she replied 'Hired.' Another commenter questioned the need for a trans actress, to which McBride responded, 'Opportunities for artists who don't have enough roles!'
One wisecracker joked that Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) would be perfect for the part, referencing Mace's anti-trans bathroom bill targeting McBride.
Context of McBride's Career
McBride became the first openly trans person elected to Congress in 2024. She was targeted by Mace's bill to ban trans women from women's bathrooms in the Capitol. House Speaker Mike Johnson later mandated that bathrooms correspond to biological sex, and McBride said she would comply, stating, 'I'm not here to fight about bathrooms.'
