Comedian Laura Clery Crushed by 600-Pound Fridge, Calls It 'Most Terrifying Night'
Laura Clery Crushed by 600-Pound Fridge, Recounts Ordeal

Comedian and actor Laura Clery, known for her role on 2 Broke Girls, says she narrowly escaped death after a 600-pound refrigerator fell on her while she was home alone with her two young children. The incident, which she described as the most terrifying night of my life as a single mom, was shared in a series of emotional social media posts.

Frightening Ordeal Unfolds

In a video posted to Instagram, Clery filmed herself being wheeled away on a stretcher, and later inside an ambulance wearing a neck brace as she spoke with firefighters. She expressed gratitude to the first responders who pushed a 600-pound fridge off of me, calling them actual HEROES.

Clery provided more details on her Patreon page, explaining that her large French-door refrigerator, which she estimated weighed between 500 and 600 pounds, was supposed to be securely mounted into the wall. She noticed the appliance shifting after her son climbed on it and attempted to push it back into place.

Everything Went Wrong

The second I pushed it, it came down on me. Not slowly. Not in a way where I could catch it or jump out of the way. It just fell, Clery wrote. The fridge slammed her backward into the kitchen island, pinning her lower back and hips under its full weight. I couldn't move. I tried to push it off and it didn't even slightly budge. It felt like pushing against a building, she added.

As she struggled beneath the appliance, Clery felt herself having trouble breathing and feared she was dying. The pain was so intense it almost didn't feel real, she wrote, recalling thinking this is the dumbest way anyone has ever died. Despite being trapped, she managed to pull her phone from her pocket and call 911. According to USA Today, it took three firefighters to lift the fridge off her.

Recovery and Reflection

At the hospital, doctors were reportedly stunned that Clery had not suffered any broken bones. She later told followers she was recovering at home but remained badly bruised and sore. I'm home now. I'm bruised, I'm sore, it hurts to walk, and I feel like I got hit by a truck that also lives in my kitchen, she wrote on Instagram. But I'm okay. My kids are okay. And I cannot stop thinking about how differently this could have gone. She added that having her phone in her pocket may have saved her life.

In a Facebook post, Clery said she is considering legal action against the contractors who installed the fridge, alleging it was NOT properly mounted into the wall. It nearly killed me. And it could have absolutely killed my child. This should never have been possible. This was negligence, she stated.

Clery was previously married to British record producer Stephen Hilton. The former couple share two children: Alfie, seven, and Poppy, five, reports The Guardian.
