Jon Stewart Slams Trump for Costly Iran Deal Similar to Previous One
Jon Stewart Slams Trump Over Iran Deal Hypocrisy

“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart on Monday slammed President Donald Trump for dragging America into a deadly and expensive war with Iran, only to emerge with the framework of a deal strikingly similar to the one he tore up.

Stewart played clips of Trump attacking the previous deal, negotiated by then-President Barack Obama, as a “horrible, stupid deal” and accusing his predecessor of paying “$150 billion for nothing.” Trump described the payment as a “bribe” and said that approach “never works.”

Stewart sarcastically agreed. “Exactly! Thank you, sir!” he said. “What kind of a fucking idiot would try and dangle billions of dollars in exchange for a deal with Iran?”

Naturally, the next clips were news segments about a reported $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran as part of a deal. “I guess it’s that kind of fucking idiot,” Stewart said, as he looked at an image of Trump on the screen. “There you have it, folks. Done! Only the great Donald Trump could fight a costly war to get the United States to remove the sanctions put on Iran by Donald Trump. In the words of the great Winston Churchill, ‘You played yourself.’”

Trump has dismissed those reports as “fake news.” Earlier in the day, however, Vice President JD Vance indicated such a fund would be paid for by Gulf allies, and would be “the sort of thing they could have access to” as part of the deal.
