Devon Aoki's Husband Charged in Florida Hit-and-Run

The husband of model and retired actress Devon Aoki, known for her role in '2 Fast 2 Furious,' is facing serious criminal charges following a hit-and-run incident in South Florida. James Bailey, a 40-year-old investor, was arrested and charged after authorities allege he struck a man on a scooter with his Audi SUV and left the scene without providing aid.

Details of the Coral Gables Incident

The incident occurred in Coral Gables, Florida, on Monday, December 18, 2025, just after 5:15 p.m. According to the Coral Gables Police Department, Bailey was allegedly driving an Audi SQ7 SUV when he hit a man riding a scooter in a crosswalk at the intersection of Douglas Road and Giralda Avenue.

An arrest report provides harrowing details from the victim's girlfriend, who was present. She told officers that her boyfriend's left foot became trapped under the vehicle's right tire. She stated she was "frantically asking (Bailey) to move the vehicle back to release (his) foot from underneath the tire." Police claim Bailey reversed the vehicle but then drove away from the scene without rendering assistance, providing his information, or reporting the crash to authorities.

The victim sustained serious injuries, including two fractures in his foot. The police report noted there was no indication of alcohol or drug use by Bailey at the time of the collision.

The Investigation and Arrest

Following the crash, the victim's girlfriend provided a description of Bailey and his vehicle. Police were able to track the Audi using several automated licence plate readers and police cameras in the area. The investigation led officers to the registered address of the vehicle: an eight-bedroom, seven-bathroom mansion in the 9300 block of Southwest 59th Avenue, which Bailey shares with his wife, Devon Aoki.

When police arrived at the home with assistance from Pinecrest police, they encountered Aoki. The report states she told officers she did not know the whereabouts of the SUV. As police were preparing to leave, Bailey reportedly pulled into the driveway in the Audi. Officers followed him and a sergeant activated his cruiser's emergency lights, calling for Bailey to stop.

Authorities allege that Bailey "ran away" from the sergeant, entered the home, and locked the front door. After several minutes of observing Bailey inside the residence, he eventually came out and was taken into custody. Police noted the Audi had "minor damage consistent with a collision with a pedestrian on a stand-up scooter."

Court Proceedings and Aftermath

James Bailey appeared in Miami-Dade bond court on Tuesday morning, December 19. Miami-Dade Judge Mindy Glazer found probable cause for the charges of hit-and-run causing serious bodily injury and resisting an officer without violence.

Bailey was held on a $7,500 bond and was released from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Tuesday night. He invoked his right to remain silent during the arrest process.

Devon Aoki, 43, is best known for playing the character Suki in the 2003 film '2 Fast 2 Furious,' starring the late Paul Walker. She largely retired from full-time acting in 2009. She is also the sister of renowned American DJ and record producer Steve Aoki.

The case highlights the severe legal consequences of leaving the scene of an accident, especially one involving injury. Florida law treats hit-and-run incidents resulting in serious bodily injury as felony offenses.
