Daughter Questions Stepfather's Account in Mother's Mysterious Bahamas Disappearance
The daughter of an American woman reported missing while boating with her husband in the Bahamas is raising serious concerns about her stepfather's involvement, alleging a history of violence that includes threats to throw her overboard. Karli Aylesworth told Fox News that the story provided by Brian Hooker, the husband of Lynette Hooker, does not align with her mother's character or the circumstances of the incident.
Conflicting Details Emerge in Police Report
According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Brian Hooker reported that he and his wife were traveling from Hope Town to Elbow Cay around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday when Lynette allegedly fell off their dinghy, taking the boat key with her. He claimed strong currents carried her away, and without the key, the engine shut off, forcing him to paddle to shore. He reported her missing around 4 a.m. on Saturday.
However, Aylesworth disputes this version of events, emphasizing that her mother was a strong and physically fit swimmer who would not have been holding the boat key, as her husband always drove. She also pointed to a pattern of alleged abuse, stating, "There's history of him choking her out and threatening to throw her overboard." In an interview with NBC News, she noted that the couple had particular issues when drinking, adding to her suspicions.
Search Efforts Intensify Amidst Family Tensions
Extensive search-and-rescue operations have been underway since Lynette Hooker's disappearance, involving local teams, the U.S. Coast Guard, drone technology, and professional divers. Police described these efforts as spanning marine, land, and aerial areas, but no trace has been found yet.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Brian Hooker expressed his heartbreak over the accident in what he called unpredictable seas and high winds, stating his sole focus is finding his "beloved Lynette." He wrote, "Despite desperate attempts to reach her, the winds and currents drove us further apart." Neither he nor Aylesworth responded immediately to requests for comment from HuffPost.
Background of the Couple's Sailing Lifestyle
Aylesworth revealed to NBC that the couple from Michigan had been sailing for over a decade and were living full-time on a larger boat after selling their home several years ago. They documented their adventures on TikTok, with their last post on Friday indicating they were traveling to Great Guana Cay, an islet northwest of Elbow Cay.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force has not provided further updates, and the investigation continues as family members grapple with the unsettling details surrounding this tragic event.
