Colbert Mocks Hegseth's Kamikaze Dolphin Denial

Stephen Colbert on Tuesday had fun with one of the weirder moments from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's latest Pentagon press briefing — the topic of alleged 'kamikaze dolphins.'

The Late Show Host Highlights Hegseth's Response

The 'Late Show' host highlighted the moment Hegseth was asked about reports that Iran was deploying so-called 'kamikaze dolphins' in the Strait of Hormuz. Hegseth replied: 'I can't confirm or deny whether we have kamikaze dolphins. But I can confirm they don't.'

Colbert's Comedic Take

Colbert quickly pounced. 'Well, then clearly we have kamikaze dolphins,' he joked. 'We strap porpoises with explosives and then depress them sufficiently that they're willing to ram ships in exchange for the promise of herring.'

Colbert then turned to footage of a dolphin displayed on screen and asked: 'What do you think about that, Flipper?' Amid screeching noises from the dolphin, a caption appeared reading: 'That's fucked up.'

'I agree,' Colbert responded.
