Chris Pratt, the celebrated star of numerous blockbuster movie franchises, finds himself in an unusual position at home: most of his own children have no idea about his cinematic fame. During a recent appearance on the "Today" show to promote "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," Pratt was questioned about whether his three youngest kids think it's "cool" that he voices the iconic video game character Mario.
A Screen-Free Household
Pratt explained that his 5-year-old, 3-year-old, and 1-year-old have never watched any movies. He attributed this to his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, who maintains a traditional, old-school philosophy regarding screens and technology. "Katherine is very old-school when it comes to screens and technology and all of that stuff," Pratt said. "So, we're waiting."
The actor shared that this screen embargo is not permanent, hinting at a future shift. "There's gonna be a season, they're gonna realize their dad is really cool," he joked. "They haven't realized it yet, but one day." Pratt and Schwarzenegger are parents to three children: Lyla, 5, Eloise, 3, and Ford, 16 months.
Surprising Revelation Given His Career
This admission is particularly striking given Pratt's extensive filmography in family-friendly entertainment. His resume includes roles in six Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, three "Jurassic Park" films, two Lego animated features, and an upcoming sequel where he reprises his role as the beloved comic strip cat Garfield. Despite this, his youngest offspring remain unaware of his on-screen achievements.
Contrast with His Eldest Son
In contrast, Pratt's eldest son, Jack, 13, from his previous marriage to actress Anna Faris, is an avid movie enthusiast. In a 2021 interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Pratt disclosed that Jack "sees 'em all," including films that might be considered inappropriate for his age. "He's a great critic," Pratt remarked. "He started to become a bit of a movie buff."
This dichotomy highlights the diverse parenting approaches within Pratt's family, blending modern media consumption with a more restrained, technology-conscious upbringing for his younger children.
