Barbra Streisand will not attend the Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'Or ceremony after suffering a knee injury, organizers announced Monday. The legendary singer and actress was scheduled to receive the honorary Palme d'Or at the closing ceremony on May 24.
Injury Details
Streisand, 84, sustained the injury during a fall at her home in Malibu, California, according to a statement from her representative. The injury is not considered serious, but doctors advised her to avoid travel and prolonged standing.
"Barbra is deeply disappointed to miss this special occasion," the statement read. "She was looking forward to celebrating with the festival and her fans, but her health must come first."
Festival Response
Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Fremaux expressed regret over Streisand's absence but emphasized that the honorary award would still be presented in her honor. "We are saddened by Barbra's situation and wish her a speedy recovery. The Palme d'Or will be awarded to her in spirit, and we hope to welcome her in the future," Fremaux said in a press release.

Streisand is one of the most decorated entertainers in history, with two Academy Awards, 10 Grammy Awards, and five Emmy Awards. She received an honorary Oscar in 1970 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015. Her film credits include "Funny Girl," "The Way We Were," and "Yentl."
