Adam Driver has broken his silence regarding Lena Dunham's claims that he displayed volatile behavior on the set of the HBO series Girls. During a press conference in Cannes, France, on Sunday for his upcoming film Paper Tiger, Driver was asked about the allegations and responded succinctly: "I have no comment on any of that. I'm saving it all for the book," as reported by Variety.
Allegations in Dunham's Memoir
In her memoir Famesick, Lena Dunham described Driver's conduct as intimidating and aggressive. She recounted a specific incident while rehearsing a fight scene in her trailer, alleging that Driver became frustrated and "hurled a chair at the wall next to me" after shouting expletives. Despite this, Dunham noted that they "still felt like partners" during the first season of Girls in 2012, adding that she often wondered if Driver liked her.
Volatile Workplace Environment
Dunham further detailed her experiences in interviews, claiming Driver screamed in her face and punched a hole in a wall. Speaking to The Guardian, she admitted, "At the time, I didn't have the skill to … it never entered my mind to say, 'I am your boss, you can't speak to me this way.'" In an interview with the Today show, Dunham emphasized that her writing aimed to capture a dynamic many young women face in the workplace, saying, "I really want people to read it in context and understand it in the totality … It's as much about my experience of coming to some kind of understanding of my own power as a boss."
Driver's Career Move
Driver was in Cannes to promote Paper Tiger, directed by James Gray and co-starring Miles Teller and Scarlett Johansson. The film is generating buzz at the festival, but Driver's remarks on the Dunham controversy have drawn significant media attention.
