Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame Announces Class of 2026 with Seven New Inductees
The Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame has officially revealed its Class of 2026, welcoming seven new inductees who will be enshrined for their outstanding contributions to sports. The announcement was made at the Great Western Brewing Company in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on April 14, 2026, marking a significant moment as the hall prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary later this year.
Meet the Inductees: Athletes and Builders Honored
This year's induction class includes four athletes and three builders, showcasing a diverse range of sports achievements from across the province. The athlete category features Brianne Theisen-Eaton from Humboldt, Chris Getzlaf from Regina, Cameron Baerg from Saskatoon, and Otto Huber from Lipton. In the builder category, Dr. Marlys Misfeldt of Melfort and Ross Wilson of Saskatoon are being inducted, along with the 2011-14 Saskatoon Valkyries football club as a team.
With these new additions, the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame will now boast a total of 261 athletes, 175 builders, and 132 teams, highlighting the rich sports heritage of the region. The formal induction ceremony is scheduled for September 26, 2026, at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina, as part of the hall's milestone 60th-anniversary celebrations.
Executive Director Expresses Enthusiasm
Erin Stankewich, the executive director of the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame, expressed excitement about the new class in a recent release. "We are thrilled to be welcoming this excellent class as the Hall of Fame celebrates 60 years in the community in 2026," Stankewich said. "This class is a great example of the work the Hall of Fame does to not only celebrate excellence but elevate stories and examples of Saskatchewan's resilience and trailblazing spirit."
Spotlight on Key Inductees
Brianne Theisen-Eaton, an athlete from Humboldt, is a two-time Olympian with a bronze medal from the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Competing in heptathlon, she achieved notable successes including a 10th-place finish at the 2012 London Olympics, silver medals at the 2013 and 2015 world championships, gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and a first-place finish in pentathlon at the 2016 world indoor championships. After attending the University of Oregon, she retired from competition in 2017.
Chris Getzlaf, a football athlete from Regina, is a two-time Grey Cup champion and two-time CFL West Division all-star. He played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders from 2007 to 2015, following a standout career with the University of Regina Rams where he was named an All-Canadian receiver in 2006. Getzlaf was drafted by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2006 and later traded to the Roughriders, winning his first Grey Cup in 2007. He went on to achieve over 1,000 receiving yards in 2011 and 2013, earning the Most Valuable Canadian award in the 2013 Grey Cup. Over his 11-season career, which included a stint with the Edmonton Elks, he accumulated 6,192 receiving yards and 41 touchdowns in 147 regular season games, along with 13 playoff appearances and three Grey Cup participations.
The other inductees, including Cameron Baerg, Otto Huber, Dr. Marlys Misfeldt, Ross Wilson, and the Saskatoon Valkyries, represent a wide array of sports disciplines and contributions, further enriching the hall's legacy.
