The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were unveiled Wednesday morning, with medical drama The Pitt leading the pack with 25 nominations for its sophomore season. The show, which won Outstanding Drama Series last year, tops a competitive field that includes Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, crime drama Task, and political thriller The Diplomat.
Comedy Contenders Shine
On the comedy side, Hacks earned 24 nominations for its fifth and final season. If star Jean Smart wins the lead actress trophy, she will have swept the category for every season of the HBO series. Other top comedy nominees include Abbott Elementary, The Bear, and newcomer Widow's Bay.
Previous winners Liza Colón-Zayas of The Bear and Jeff Hiller of Somebody Somewhere announced the contenders, praising the television talent on display.
Eligibility and Ceremony Details
To be eligible, projects had to be released from June 1, 2025, through May 31, 2026. The main ceremony will take place Sept. 14 at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, hosted by Law & Order icon Mariska Hargitay. An Emmy winner herself, Hargitay will be the first female host of the awards in 15 years.
