The 2026 Canada's Capital Cappies Gala celebrated outstanding student theatre, with St. Patrick's High School emerging as a dominant force. Siblings Sofia Guerra-Nguyen and Ariana Guerra-Nguyen were named Top Junior Critic and Top Senior Critic, respectively, both from St. Patrick's High School.
St. Patrick's High School Sweeps Major Awards
St. Patrick's High School won multiple category awards for its production of In the Heights. The school earned honors in Marketing and Publicity for No Me Diga Media, Sound in a Musical for The Uptown Beat, Sets for In the Set, Choreography for The Bodega Bachatas, and Ensemble in a Musical for Daniela and Carla. Individual performers from St. Patrick's also excelled: Yami Workneh won Dancer in a Female Role, and Omar Shabana won Dancer in a Male Role.
Holy Trinity Catholic High School Recognized
Holy Trinity Catholic High School received multiple awards for its production of Macbeth. Rock Dallaire won Sound in a Play. The Costumes category went to Chance Kelly, Sophie Mora, Posimi Sotunde, and Leila Trubiani. Hair and Makeup was awarded to Sam Helmus, Kori O'Connell, Posimi Sotunde, and Elly Usta. Special Effects and Technology went to Luna Abou-Shaban, Layla Costescu, Toby O'Connell, and Callie Siegner. The Witches won Ensemble in a Play.
St. Joseph High School and Others Shine
St. Joseph High School earned awards for its production of Clue (High School Edition). Matteo Dufresne, Layan Hamra, and Olivia St. Pierre won Lighting. Stage Management & Stage Crew went to Allison Billing, Sean Horne, Ella Marcogliese, and Lexie St. James. Nosaze Osaze won Featured Actor in a Male Role in a Play, and Ella Marcogliese won Comic Actor in a Female Role in a Play. Zayne Mundy won Comic Actor in a Male Role in a Play.
Other Winning Schools and Productions
Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School won Props for The Prefects' Props in Puffs, Or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic. Immaculata High School won Orchestra for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Pit Band in We Will Rock You School Edition. Almonte & District High School won Creativity for Maggie Boughner, Lilah Mann-Dobry, Cole Stevenson, and Ella Wattie in Shattered: Time in Pieces. Maggie Boughner also won Featured Actor in a Female Role in a Play. All Saints High School's Helen Rochon won Featured Actor in a Female Role in a Musical for Anne of Green Gables. St. Mother Teresa High School's Olivia Harding won Featured Actor in a Male Role in a Musical for Annie. Philemon Wright High School's Penelope Ewing and Anya Delorme won Vocalist in a Female Role and Vocalist in a Male Role, respectively, for Amelie Teen Edition.
Celebrating Student Excellence
The Cappies program recognizes high school theatre students for their achievements in criticism and production. The 2026 gala showcased the creativity and collaboration of Ottawa-area schools. According to the Ottawa Citizen, the event highlighted the dedication of students and educators in the performing arts.
