Calgarians of all ages are encouraged to get in a little 'Reading in the Wild' late next month. The event, hosted by Wordfest, will take over Central Memorial Park on the evening of June 20, 2026. Attendees can enjoy outdoor reading, author talks, and family-friendly activities. The free event aims to promote literacy and a love of reading in a unique outdoor setting.
Event Details
Central Memorial Park will transform into a literary haven from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 20. Participants are invited to bring their own books or borrow from a selection provided by Wordfest. The evening will include readings by local authors, storytelling sessions, and interactive games. Snacks and refreshments will be available from nearby vendors.
Community Engagement
Wordfest Executive Director Shelley Youngblut said the event is designed to bring the community together. 'We want to show that reading can be a shared, joyful experience, even outdoors,' she stated. The event is part of Wordfest's ongoing efforts to make literature accessible to all Calgarians.
