Vancouver dance crew Brotherhood has achieved back-to-back victories in the 2026 International Dance League (IDL) competition season, securing first place at the sold-out Vancouver Series held at Thunderbird Sports Centre last weekend. The group also won the New York Series earlier in May, solidifying their dominance in the league.
Brotherhood's Winning Performance
Over 3,500 fans gathered at the venue on the UBC Campus to watch Brotherhood compete against teams from New Zealand, Norway, Southeast Asia, South Korea, and the United States in head-to-head dance-offs. The crew emerged victorious with 14 points, bringing their total to 28 points in the league standings this season. Teams are now preparing for their next competition in Sydney, Australia, scheduled for June 20.
Second-place team Jam Republic, currently holding 13 points, also delivered an innovative and flashy program, proving that all competitors are at the top of their game. Brotherhood's significant lead underscores Vancouver's reputation as a hotbed for contemporary street and free-form dance teams.
The International Dance League
Described as 'F1 meets America's Best Dance Group' by Brotherhood founder Scott Forsyth, the IDL is a professional dance sports organization showcasing elite athletes and performers. Unlike other broadcast showcases or talent contests, the IDL features selected teams from around the world who prepare open-style choreographed routines and compete in a two-round format. Routines draw on various dance styles to deliver peak performance in three-minute rounds.
In recent competitions, Brotherhood displayed a seamless mix of street styles and acrobatic flourishes, combined with flawless blocking and constant energy. Dancers are judged on endurance among other criteria, and these athletes, aged 20 to 36, gave their all in the winning rounds.
Training and Background
Training out of Studio North in Mount Pleasant, Brotherhood rehearses in four- to six-hour sessions, five days a week, along with additional solo practice. Since forming the crew in 2011, Forsyth has seen it blossom into one of the world's best dance groups, earning back-to-back gold medals at the 2013 and 2014 World Hip Hop Internationals and appearing on Season 2 of NBC's World of Dance in 2018.
The 2026 IDL series finals will be held in Los Angeles on September 20.
