Windsor police issued 264 traffic tickets over the past four days in a concentrated enforcement effort, according to a police statement released July 10, 2026. The blitz targeted speeding, distracted driving, and other dangerous behaviors to reduce collisions and improve road safety.
Details of the Enforcement Operation
The tickets were handed out between July 6 and July 9, with officers focusing on high-traffic areas and known accident hotspots. Speeding accounted for the largest share of violations, followed by distracted driving and failure to obey traffic signals. Police also issued several warnings for minor infractions.
“Our goal is to change driver behavior and make our roads safer for everyone,” said Windsor Police Service in a release. “We will continue these enforcement efforts throughout the summer.”
Impact on Road Safety
The blitz comes amid a rise in traffic-related incidents in the region. In 2025, Windsor reported a 12% increase in collisions compared to the previous year, with distracted driving identified as a leading cause. Police hope that high-visibility enforcement will deter risky driving and reduce fatalities.
Residents have expressed mixed reactions, with some praising the crackdown and others questioning the sudden intensity. “It’s about time they did something,” said local commuter Sarah Mitchell. “I see people on their phones every day.”
Ongoing Enforcement
Windsor police plan to maintain a visible presence on roads through the summer, with additional checkpoints and speed traps scheduled. They urge drivers to obey speed limits, avoid phone use, and always wear seat belts.
