TTC Finch West LRT Closed for Victoria Day Weekend

The Toronto Transit Commission's Line 6 Finch West LRT will be completely shut down over the Victoria Day long weekend for essential upgrades and enhancements aimed at improving system reliability and performance, according to Metrolinx.

The closure will begin on Friday, May 15, at 2:30 a.m. and continue through the entire long weekend, with regular service expected to resume on Tuesday, May 18, at 4 a.m.

During the shutdown, shuttle buses will operate along Finch Avenue West to accommodate passengers, Metrolinx confirmed.

Ongoing Issues Since Launch

Line 6 has faced numerous challenges since its opening in December 2025, just five months ago. Shortly after launch, riders complained about slow travel times and a lack of priority signaling at intersections. The line also experienced multiple weather-related closures and over 350 delays in its first month of operation.

In response, Toronto City Council adopted a motion to accelerate transit signal priority implementation at surface intersections for LRT and streetcar lines. Mayor Olivia Chow expressed hope that the upgrades would be completed by spring 2026, ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

Training and Improvements During Closure

Metrolinx stated that the long weekend closure will allow for multiple tasks to be completed simultaneously, reducing the need for repeated service interruptions in the future. The TTC will also use this window to train additional staff for key positions, providing hands-on training that is not possible while trains are in operation.

According to a Metrolinx media release, the closure will help build on the route's 25% improvement in on-time performance since its opening.

Passengers are advised to plan their travel accordingly and use shuttle bus services during the closure period.
