Speed Investigated in Fatal Boxing Day Collision

A 27-year-old man from Chilliwack has died following a single-vehicle collision on the evening of Boxing Day. The Chilliwack RCMP are investigating the incident and have indicated that excessive speed may have been a contributing factor in the tragic outcome.

Details of the Collision

The crash occurred just before 10:30 p.m. on December 26 at the intersection of Yale Road and Banford Road. According to police, the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, lost control and collided with a power pole.

While investigators have stated that alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash, their preliminary assessment points toward the possibility of speeding. Emergency crews responded swiftly to the scene, but the male driver was pronounced dead at the location.

Aftermath and Investigation

The RCMP have confirmed that the victim's next of kin have been notified of his death. The collision resulted in the closure of the road for several hours to allow for investigation and cleanup, but traffic has since resumed normally.

Authorities are now appealing to the public for any additional information that could aid their investigation. The Chilliwack RCMP are specifically asking anyone who may have witnessed the event or who has dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the crash to come forward.

Individuals with information are urged to contact the Chilliwack RCMP detachment at 604-792-4611.
