Overnight Closures Planned for Southbound Pattullo Bridge

Drivers heading from New Westminster to Surrey should prepare for significant overnight disruptions this week. The southbound lanes of the Pattullo Bridge will be completely closed for three separate nights to allow for crucial installation work on the bridge replacement project. These closures are scheduled from 9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. the following morning.

Closure Schedule and Reason for Work

The shutdowns will affect all southbound traffic, including vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists, on the following dates:

  • Thursday, November 27
  • Friday, November 28
  • Sunday, November 30

According to TransLink, the primary reason for the overnight closures is to safely secure a new, large overhead directional traffic sign along King George Boulevard. This sign will be positioned over the right lane of the new bridge, just before the Scott Road exit ramp. The work requires heavy equipment, including a drill rig, which will block the traffic lanes on the south side of the existing bridge, making a full closure necessary for public and worker safety.

Detour Routes and Travel Advice

For drivers needing to cross the Fraser River into Surrey during these hours, official detours are in place. Motorists are advised to use the Port Mann Bridge or the Alex Fraser Bridge as alternatives. The impact on transit users will also be notable. The N19 NightBus service will be rerouted over the Alex Fraser and Queensborough bridges to connect New Westminster with Scott Road Station. Both drivers and transit users should add up to 30 minutes of extra travel time to their journeys during the closure periods. Traffic control personnel will be on-site, and signs will be posted to guide motorists through the changed traffic patterns.

It is important to note that northbound travel into New Westminster will not be impacted by this work and will continue as normal. The Pattullo Bridge replacement project is now in its final stages and is expected to be completed within the coming weeks.
