Ontario Provincial Police have arrested eight stunt drivers during a five-day road safety blitz, according to officials. The enforcement operation, which targeted dangerous driving behaviors, resulted in multiple charges and vehicle impoundments.
Details of the Blitz
The blitz, conducted from April 24 to April 29, 2026, focused on identifying and apprehending drivers engaged in stunt driving, including excessive speeding and reckless maneuvers. Officers utilized speed radar devices and unmarked patrol vehicles to monitor traffic on major highways and secondary roads.
Stunt driving in Ontario is defined as driving 40 km/h or more over the posted speed limit, or engaging in activities such as drifting, burnouts, or street racing. Convictions can lead to immediate license suspension, vehicle impoundment, and fines up to $10,000.
Community Impact
Local residents and road safety advocates have praised the enforcement effort. "Stunt driving endangers everyone on the road," said a spokesperson for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. "These blitzes are crucial for deterring such behavior and making our roads safer."
The OPP encourages the public to report any suspicious or dangerous driving by calling 911 or the non-emergency line.
